ELEVATION RHYTHM – WASHED Tour

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — There are concerts built around songs, and then there are nights designed to create an experience around them. ELEVATION RHYTHM’s WASHED Tour clearly falls into the latter category.

The group brought the tour to Jannus Live in St. Petersburg on Saturday, Sept. 19, for the second of two sold-out nights at the outdoor venue, filling the courtyard with a noticeably young and energetic crowd ready for an evening centered on worship, freedom and the message of Jesus.

Even the Florida weather cooperated.

Humidity was certainly present — this is September in Florida, after all — but thankfully, the evening never became oppressively hot. Rain that could have complicated an outdoor show amounted mostly to a few passing sprinkles.

For an outdoor concert in Florida, there was plenty to be thankful for.

COLIKE Brings Something Different

Opening the evening was COLIKE, a cousin duo whose modern alternative R&B and electronic-influenced sound immediately made it clear that this was not going to resemble a traditional Christian concert lineup.

Their roughly 25-minute set leaned heavily into synthesized and processed sounds, electronic production and a musical style that felt distinctly connected to this generation.

It was different.

It was interesting.

And the crowd responded.

COLIKE repeatedly encouraged the audience to clap along and participate, quickly building energy throughout Jannus Live.

One of the most memorable elements of their performance came when their modern sound collided with much more familiar worship music.

The duo worked through an extended worship sequence incorporating “You’re Worthy of My Praise,” “Here I Am to Worship,” Bethel Music’s “The Blood” and “Agnus Dei.”

For those who have spent years around contemporary worship music, hearing those familiar songs filtered through COLIKE’s heavily electronic approach created an unexpected generational bridge.

Rather than simply abandoning older worship music for something new, the duo found a way to reinterpret it through a musical language that sounded unmistakably current.

By the time their short set concluded, COLIKE had successfully introduced themselves to a crowd that may not have known exactly what to expect from them at the beginning.

Worship That Moves Beyond Music

Following COLIKE’s set, Pastor Eric, who is traveling with the WASHED Tour, addressed the crowd with a brief message centered on the heart of worship.

Drawing from Colossians 3:23 and Psalm 130, he spoke about worship as something deeper than singing songs — something rooted in wholehearted devotion, hope and dependence on God.

That message eventually moved from words into action.

Pastor Eric presented a World Vision child sponsorship opportunity, challenging the St. Petersburg crowd to sponsor 50 children during the evening.

With a QR code making it easy for attendees throughout the packed venue to participate directly from their phones, the response came quickly.

The goal was reached.

Fifty children were sponsored.

It was one of the more meaningful elements of the evening because it demonstrated that worship was not being framed solely as an emotional or musical experience. The crowd was also given an opportunity to translate that worship into something tangible.

Even the music playing during the transition between artists seemed connected to the audience gathered that night. Hearing 2819 Worship’s “For Christ Alone” come through the speakers was a particularly welcome surprise before ELEVATION RHYTHM took the stage.

Grace at the Center

When it was finally time for ELEVATION RHYTHM, the beginning of their portion of the evening immediately established what would sit at the center of everything else.

A video introduction drew from Romans 5:8 and the truth that while humanity was still separated from God by sin, Christ died for us.

Before the lights, movement, production and energy could become the story, the Gospel was.

That theme transitioned naturally into ELEVATION RHYTHM’s music, including the declaration about the “man on the middle cross” heard in “AMAZING!”

From there, the atmosphere quickly became celebratory.

Songs such as “Sing of Your Love,” along with portions of “PRAISE,” allowed the packed crowd to move almost seamlessly between the feel of a contemporary concert and corporate worship.

That blending of the two worlds may be one of ELEVATION RHYTHM’s greatest strengths.

The production was modern. The energy was youthful. Electronic elements, bass, movement and an audience eager to jump and sing gave portions of the night the feel of a mainstream pop show.

Yet the purpose remained unmistakable.

Jesus was not an accessory to the production.

He was the reason for it.

Even something as celebratory as “THANK GOD I’M FREE,” featuring Lizzie Morgan on the recorded version, fit naturally within the larger theme of the WASHED Tour: grace, freedom and the transformation made possible through Christ.

Worship for a New Generation

Perhaps the biggest takeaway from ELEVATION RHYTHM’s stop in St. Petersburg was just how intentionally the entire evening seemed designed to speak the language of a younger generation.

That was evident in COLIKE’s unconventional production.

It was visible in the energy of the crowd.

It could be heard in ELEVATION RHYTHM’s music.

And yet nothing about the night suggested that reaching a new generation requires abandoning the foundations of worship that came before it.

Older worship songs were given new sounds.

Scripture remained central.

The cross remained central.

Compassion and service became part of the experience through World Vision.

Parents stood among teenagers and young adults, creating an environment where several generations could engage with the same timeless message through a musical expression clearly shaped for today.

ELEVATION RHYTHM is not simply trying to reproduce the worship experience of the generation before them.

They are developing one that sounds like their own generation.

It is energetic, electronic, occasionally unconventional and capable of moving rapidly between concert-level excitement and genuine moments of worship.

But underneath all of it sits something remarkably simple.

Grace changes everything.

That truth was present before ELEVATION RHYTHM ever played a note through the words of Romans 5:8.

It surfaced throughout the music.

It was reflected in Pastor Eric’s message.

It became tangible as the crowd stepped forward to sponsor 50 children through World Vision.

And on a humid September night inside a sold-out Jannus Live, there were plenty of voices ready to celebrate it.
