OLYMPIA, WA (December 3, 2021) – While the majority of today’s Christian artists and groups hail from an area known to many as the Bible Belt – a new band rises up 2,500 miles away in the Pacific Northwest – an area that spawned some of the biggest groups of the grunge era such as Alice In Chains, Nirvana, Soundgarden and Pearl Jam. For up-and-coming Christian rockers Buried Above, the message of the music could not be more different yet contains the same blistering guitars and soaring vocals of its mainstream contemporaries. Led by Washington-native and vocalist Colton Reed, the band’s infectious message of hope and perseverance through Jesus is evident throughout the very DNA of its music.
That message of hope is the heart behind the group’s upcoming December 17th self-titled debut release. “My goal is to bring the message of the gospel to broken hearts.” Colton explains “I firmly believe that if my music helps even ONE single person choose an eternity in personal relationship with our savior, Jesus Christ, it will have been worth every second of time, every dollar invested, and every drop of blood, sweat and tears, put into this record.” Musically, Colton was inspired by some of the biggest names in Christian rock including Disciple, RED, Skillet, TFK, Zahna and Decyfer Down and so many others.
Colton went all out in getting the most talented in the industry together in making the upcoming 10-track LP recorded. Among the guest vocalists to appear on the record are Josiah Prince (Disciple), Dawn Michele (Fireflight), Josh Bramlett (The Protest), Matt Baird (Spoken) and hip-hop artist, Aaron Ray. The self-titled record was produced and recorded in Nashville, TN with the help of Josiah Prince and Andrew Stanton (Disciple, Honor & Glory) with Colton’s influence from the Christian metal band Disciple and vocalist Kevin Young evident throughout the project. Josiah even provides background vocals on the track “Blood”. “The song “Blood” has a special place in my heart as being the first song I ever worked on with Josiah Prince that came to full fruition. Josiah also is featured in the song as a guest vocalist. Blood is an all-out rock song proclaiming faith in Jesus and the sacrifice He made to save humanity.” Colton explains. One of the most personal cuts on the record is “It’s Never Too Late”, a song Reed dedicated to a junior high classmate and uncle he lost to suicide, while another track, the power-ballad “Already Written” highlights Reed’s own personal testimony. He explains “God has been here for me at my highest and my lowest points, and has loved me when I believed I was unlovable, and gave me a purpose when I believed I was at a dead end.”
