Bestselling Author Ellen Vaughn Continues to Bring to Life the Elisabeth Elliot No One Knew in Second Authorized Biography, Being Elisabeth Elliot

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (July 19, 2023) – B&H Books is proud to announce New York Times bestselling author, Ellen Vaughn’s, second volume of the authorized biography of the late Elisabeth Elliot, Being Elisabeth Elliot. (September 12, 2023).

“I was surprised by new twists and turns in Elisabeth’s continuing story. I think readers who think they knew the older Elisabeth will be surprised as well. She was a rebel in the 1960s, for example . . . and not in the ways that you might think,” says Vaughn.

Elisabeth (or Betty as her friends and family of her early life affectionately called her) was one of the most influential Christians of the 20th century, but a view from the audience is not always accurate and is certainly never complete. In the first volume, Becoming Elisabeth Elliot, Vaughn chronicled Elisabeth’s journey from childhood, to the mission field, and back again. With disappointments, hard relationships, loss, and learning impossible lessons about suffering while too young, Vaughn showed the real woman behind the famed widow. In this latest volume, Vaughn continues to pull back the curtain, sharing the heart of the woman who was honest enough to admit there was so much she did not yet understand and so much she was no longer willing to conform to. While the most unknown to her audience, these years brought with them her highest joys and her greatest loss. Vaughn, having spent years pouring over Elliot’s private, unpublished journals and conducting candid interviews with her family and friends, provides a unique and intimate point of view into how the revered Elliot navigated the world and continued to contemplate what she coined as the ‘impenetrable mystery’ of the enigmatic relationship between God’s will and human choices.

Ellen Vaughn is a New York Times bestselling author and speaker who has written or co-written twenty-four books. Former vice president of executive communications at Prison Fellowship, she collaborated with the late Chuck Colson on a number of his seminal works. She speaks at conferences, often travels to interview Christ-followers in hostile parts of the world, and serves on the board of directors for ICM, the global church developer. With degrees from Georgetown University and the University of Richmond, Ellen lives in northern Virginia and enjoys reading, hiking, drinking coffee with friends, and staring pensively at the ocean. Her latest book, Being Elisabeth Elliot will be available nationwide on September 12, 2023.
