Darlene Zschech ‘You Are Love’

For Hillsong fans, Darlene Zschech needs no introduction. The anointed singer has been leading worship since 1995, writing many songs that have found themselves anthems of the church, including what is perhaps her most famous – “Shout to the Lord.” Now, the Aussie worship leader delivers another solo project titled “You are Love,” offering hope as well as an incredible worship experience for the listener.

The musically creative “Under Grace,” opening with strong drums and beautiful strings, speaks of how God’s grace has covered our sins and made us brand new. The lyrics of this opening track were picture- perfect, describing how God’s grace has washed over all our sins, and is a wonderful song of thanksgiving. Following is the fun and quirky “Saving Me,” very upbeat and strong. Yet even then, the track again speaks of how Jesus Christ has rescued us from our sins, making for my favorite track off Darlene’s You are Love project.

The timeless title track follows, in which Darlene’s soaring vocals perfectly match the gorgeous music, as she sings about how God is love: “You are love, love unfailing, love Divine/ You are love, love that mends a heart like mine/ You are love, lifted high for all to see/ You are love/ the heaven’s sing of Your glory/ You are love!” This track builds wonderfully after the chorus, as strong strings come in to help add to the fullness. Next, “We are Your People” is more upbeat and contemporary, speaking of how we live to worship God and please Him in all we do.

The serene “I Will Wait,” is a prayer that God will help us to wait for Him and learn to hear His voice, while the simple “You’re Beautiful” is simply stunning, especially Darlene’s angelic vocals. A piano ballad, “Hope for Humanity” features wonderful choirs that speak of how Jesus is the hope of the world, and is followed by “Faithful,” speaking of how God is faithful to fulfill His promises to us.

Darlene Zschech is certainly an anointed worship leader, and she has done it again with her solo project You are Love. This album offers hope for the broken hearted, reminding them that Jesus is their mender, as well as offers timeless songs of worship to a faithful God deserving all our praise. This album is definitely a project fans of Hillsong and Darlene Zschech’s solo projects will want to pick up, though I may add that this project finds Darlene at her best!
