Book Review: ‘Wimpy, Weak and Woke: How Truth Can Save America from Utopian Destruction’

A new book called, Wimpy, Weak and Woke: How Truth Can Save America from Utopian Destruction, released today and if I could influence you to pick up one book this week – this would be that book.  What is this book and who wrote it?  John Cooper is the author. But ‘who is John Cooper’ you ask? Well, for the better part of the last three decades, Cooper has led the Christian rock band Skillet from its humble beginnings in the CCM industry to rock-n-roll juggernauts now touring the world with some of the biggest names in mainstream and secular music.  But don’t let the mainstream tour jacket fool you.  John Cooper and Skillet may be touring ‘in the world’ but certainly have heeded to Romans 12:1 and not ‘conformed to it’. Cooper and company have managed to keep the faith grounded and their voices raised for Jesus in the forefront.  I have had the privilege and honor of seeing Skillet in concert more than any other band in the last 25 years, having seen them over twenty times in that period.

If there was ever a need for someone to step up and speak out, especially from the CCM world and Christianity in general, that would be now.  In a recent interview that I did with Cooper for the release of this book, I asked the question, “Do you find it crazy or shocking that a book like this even has to be written in this day and time?”  John laughed and said “Yes”.  (You can check out his complete answer to that question and the whole interview at https://youtu.be/SKweAUB2H7s) It didn’t come as a complete surprise to me that John had written this book.  After all, over the last several years, he has hosted his own podcast on YouTube called Cooper Stuff, where he has chosen to tackle hot-button issues happening in our society (and world) and even within the once-safe confines of Christian music.  I would urge you to subscribe to that one at https://www.youtube.com/@CooperStuff and start binging those, because like this book we’re about to talk about – Cooper Stuff is a series of very illuminating conversations that are designed to make one not only think, but take affirmative action in defending the faith.

So, how about new book Wimpy, Weak and Woke?  I could best describe it as both a ‘history lesson’ and ‘call to action’.  Whether he’s talking about the inherently dangerous way that Marxist beliefs have continued to shape the mindset of some (the majority being of the liberal left), to the culture-clash that continues to embody American culture with the rise of Black Lives Matter (BLM), gender dysphoria/confusion and the many other ‘crazy beliefs’ that the mainstream media wants to roll out as ‘normal’.  John’s book really gave me a whole new outlook on many of those things and so much more.  While the world is seemingly ‘headed to hell in a hand-basket’, the whole plight of the book is the fact that, yes, the world has been heading there forever.  It’s obvious given just the last 2,000 years of recorded history.  The book is especially geared towards the battle of keeping these beliefs and ‘woke ideology’ out of the church, which sadly it seems to permeate into more and more every day.  Having said that, these things don’t come as a surprise to those who believe with 100% faith that the words of the Bible are true.  Just check out Matthew 24 and you’ll see what I’m talking about.  The evidence is all around us, but John encourages us not to fall for that deceit and instead be aware of everything that we’re being forced to believe as “normal’.

John delves into the ways we can combat all of these things within the church and beyond.  Knowledge is absolute truth.  Not only with the help of God’s Word, but truly following what He instructs therein, banding together and proclaiming the Truth that the world needs to hear more than anything else. Wimpy, Weak and Woke is truly an eye-opening journey and a must read for anyone willing to step up and be a voice for Christ.  I would highly suggest adding this to your reading, along with God’s Word, so that with both, we may be equipped with all this fallen world has to throw at us!
