Until recently, I hadn’t heard of CCV Music—the worship collective from Christ’s Church of the Valley in Phoenix, Arizona—but after diving into their Hollow (Deluxe Edition) release on June 6, I can confidently say: I’m so glad I did.

Originally released as a 4-track EP back in March, Hollow delivered a tightly packed set of modern worship songs rooted in the truth of the resurrection. Now, this Deluxe Edition doubles the experience, adding acoustic versions of three standout tracks and an alternate take of the powerful “Rolled Away.” It’s a fresh and layered project that surprised me in the best way. With crisp production, intentional lyrics, and strong vocal performances, CCV Music manages to balance modern pop sensibilities with deep spiritual resonance.

The project opens with its title track, “Hollow”—a song that leans toward a polished pop feel, yet still carries the heart of a worship anthem. While the studio version feels a bit different from the typical live worship setting (perhaps due to its clean structure and radio-friendly vibe), I can see why this track has become a recurring anthem. The phrase “His grave’s still hollow” lingers powerfully, and after seeing some live clips on social media, the energy clearly translates in a congregational setting. It’s catchy, memorable, and deeply rooted in truth.

But it’s the acoustic version of “Hollow” that truly gave me chills. Opening with three of the female vocalists in beautifully blended harmony, this stripped-down arrangement shifts the tone completely. The trio’s vocals weave together in a way that instantly draws you in—intimate, reverent, and hauntingly beautiful. As someone who admittedly has a bias toward acoustic performances, this version hits all the right notes for me. When production steps aside and musicality is allowed to shine, the message becomes even more personal. The way CCV Music rotates vocalists seamlessly while maintaining the integrity of the song is a testament to their depth as a collective.

Another standout is “Wolves,” which brings a slight edge with its rock-inspired intro. The acoustic version, however, takes a softer, more reflective approach—stripping it down to piano and acoustic guitar. It’s in this format that the lyrics stand out most clearly, offering a moment to not just listen, but to reflect and respond. I caught myself tapping my foot and nodding along, immersed in the raw vulnerability of the performance.

“Rolled Away” is the album’s centerpiece and an undeniable highlight. Serving as CCV’s Easter anthem this year, it was performed across all of their campuses, reaching over 100,000 people. The studio version feels more in line with traditional worship—corporate, soaring, and joy-filled. With lyrics like “Rejoice, rejoice, the stone was rolled away” and “He’s breathing, He’s breathing. He lives again,” the song doesn’t just tell the resurrection story—it celebrates it with full conviction.

What really resonates here is the theological depth woven into the music. The resurrection of Jesus isn’t just a plot point—it’s the whole point. CCV Music captures that, emphasizing not just the death of Christ as an act of love, but His victory over the grave as a display of God’s unmatched power. This is the kind of message the Church needs to sing loudly and often.

And yes—the acoustic version of “Rolled Away” somehow manages to elevate the message even more. There’s something about hearing those words in a quieter, more intimate arrangement that forces you to pause and soak in the significance. It’s raw. It’s real. It’s worship at its most honest.

One more thing worth celebrating: each of the acoustic versions comes with a video companion. This multimedia approach adds an immersive element to the Deluxe release and gives listeners a visual window into the heart of the songs.

All in all, Hollow (Deluxe Edition) isn’t just an expanded album—it’s a more complete worship experience. Whether you’re just discovering CCV Music like I was, or you’ve followed them from the beginning, this project is well worth your time. The voices are stunning, the heart is genuine, and the message is crystal clear: the grave is still empty, and Jesus is still alive.

We’re excited to chat with members of CCV Music soon on the Kingdom Builder Podcast to go even deeper into the heart behind this powerful release. In the meantime, give Hollow (Deluxe Edition) a listen—you won’t be disappointed.
