Every once in a while something extraordinary happens that defies the realm of possibility causing us to stop in awe of what we have witnessed or question “how can this be?” when we hear about something too amazing for our human minds to comprehend. The life of young Annabel (Anna) Beam is one such story and her experience is featured in the Sony Pictures Entertainment film Miracles From Heaven.
Adapted from a book by the same name written by Anna’s mother, Christy Beam, the movie tells of the family’s faith, love for each other and their journey to healing.
Based in Burleson, Texas, the Beam family is a tight knit group comprised of veterinarian Kevin Beam (played by Martin Henderson), Christy Beam (played by Jennifer Garner) and their three daughters – 13 year old Abbie (played by Brighton Shambrino), 10 year old Anna (played by Kylie Rogers) and 6 year old Adelynn (played by Courtney Fansler).
When Anna is diagnosed with an incurable disease after years of illness and multiple tests, each of the family member’s faith is put to the ultimate test as Anna faces several rounds of treatments that may or may not help control her condition. Christy is portrayed as an extremely caring mother willing to do whatever it takes to see that her little girl is taken care of.
The entire family struggles with the tough questions of why this has happened to Anna, why hasn’t God healed her yet and they begin to wonder if God is even listening to their prayers.
After travelling to the Boston Children’s Hospital several times for appointments with a renowned specialist, Anna and her family return home in hopes of just spending as much quality time together as they can. When a tragic accident occurs, seemingly unbelievable circumstances lead to Anna being fully healed by what can only be described as a miracle. Anna’s personal explanation of what happened to her is remarkable and something many should hear. News of Anna’s story spread across the country and with it a powerful message of hope, faith & family.
As an added bonus, at the end of the film, viewers get a glimpse into the lives of the actual Beam family via home video by Anna herself.
In a society where our entertainment culture is saturated with objectionable content, movies with strong core moral values are a welcome change. A talented cast and heartfelt story make Miracles From Heaven a can’t miss family film.
