We The Kingdom – Dear Jesus

Grammy-winning band We The Kingdom releases another hit album, Dear Jesus. They are highly recognized in the Christian music world with greats like “Holy Water,” played in churches everywhere still today, and this author’s personal favorite, “God So Loved.” Some might be hesitant to listen with Franni Cash on hiatus from the team and family on solo adventures, but this first album without her doesn’t disappoint. Ed Cash carries the album on his own with amazing lyrics, music, and vocals.
Just like prior albums, the songs are an amalgam of great Tennessee country sounds and beats. “Don’t Let the Darkness” and “Let It Be Jesus” are joyfully upbeat and will brighten your day after a listen. “Don’t Let the Darkness” is a testimony of the harsh world we live in today, of darkness everywhere, but there is hope in love—and especially the love of God. “Let It Be Jesus” reminds us to keep our eyes and hearts on Jesus as we go through our day, to keep the focus on Him who gives us everything. “I Belong to You” is a finger-snapping testimony of who Jesus is to us, and who we belong to.
The title song of the album is “Dear Jesus,” a raw and real testimony of a sinner who prays for salvation. The lyrics of this song hit the heart of anyone who let their life go off the rails, who lived in death and sin before finally being saved. You’ll be hard-pressed not to get a tear in your eye the first time you hear it. On the whole, the album is the personal story of broken people, living in a broken world, but finding grace and mercy through Jesus and the Father.
Worship leaders everywhere will probably be disappointed the album lacks a great vertical worship song like their first hit, “Holy Water.” Long-time fans will definitely miss the angelic voice of Franni on harmony and lead. But these disappointments don’t take away from Dear Jesus, and fans everywhere will enjoy another great album from a great musical, Christian family.
