Corey Voss releases Songs Of Heaven and Earth, Volume 1, a five song EP flooded with references to the glory of creation. Recorded live at Gateway Church, Voss’ home congregation, these songs will take you on a lyrical walk through the vast reaches of God’s domain.
“The King Is Here” pictures all of His creation recognizing Jesus’ arrival and pausing to take it in. As evil collapses and becomes lost in light, fire stirs inside those who are called by His name. Paced just right and gradually building in intensity, this song resounds from sky to ocean.
“Canyons” requests that God defy the limitations of our lives by lifting us to heights we could never reach alone, spiritually and influentially. His love is absolutely inexhaustible, satiating depths no other power could begin to touch. How can we withhold anything from Him?
“God Who Moves The Mountains” defines God by who He is and is not, what He will and will not do. It has a bit of a softer sound initially than you’d expect for a song about a stone-crushing, planet-agitating God, but you won’t be disappointed. It’s as much of a comforting reassurance to others as a confident statement of what He has and will do.
“As It Is In Heaven” describes the place we were meant to exist in as resplendent with light, hope, and praise. But we don’t have to wait for the end of our lives or history to experience it; we can have a foretaste at this very moment. We await the joy of heaven with unshakeable faith.
“Don’t Ever Let Me Go”, while recognizing that God can redeem and adopt us, still questions whether a second chance is possible after sinning. In this way, it echoes the uncertainties that plague us regarding our personal eligibility, despite what He has promised to all of us. The bridge describes a simultaneous opening of the soul to God even as He topples everything standing in the way.
With lyrics that take us soaring through the beauty of the natural world, evoke images of the One who created it all, and leave us eagerly expecting the supernatural, Songs Of Heaven and Earth, Volume 1 is brief but satisfying beginning.
