It’s been a while since I’ve heard new music from the band, Unspoken, but on September 13th, 2024, they released the full-length album, IV (Roman numerals for the number four).
Coincidentally (or not) , I listened the album for the first time when all the flooding was occurring due to the Hurricanes Helene and Milton. My mind was so distracted with worry for people we know and don’t know. The plight of so many was so precarious and tragic, and the losses weighed heavy on my heart, as it did for so many.
I sit here these weeks later, and marvel at how God used this album to comfort and encourage my heart. So many of the songs are about facing hard times and getting through them; depending on God’s strength, hope, peace, help. So many of them affirm how loved and wanted and needy we are, and who we are in Christ, and where our help comes from. The power, grace, and love of Jesus are proclaimed, and how it is done is both an inspiration to my weary, heavy heart, and a salve. I hope that you do listen to this album, and I pray it will bless you, reader.
Here are some of the songs that touched my heart.
HARD TIMES is an upbeat song that reflects on the need for us to hold on to hope, and have faith and cling to Jesus. “When it goes all wrong, we gotta just hold on. The promise that you gave us, your love will not forsake us in these hard times.”
WHAT HE SAYS ABOUT YOU is also more upbeat. It is an affirmation song to beat down the negative words of the world around us. There is a particular leaning to these words being directed to “daughters”. “You are loved, chosen, long before the day you were born, held, forgiven, treasured more than you’ll every know.” It is a reminder to all of us NOT to believe the lies of this world, but to believe in what the Lord says.
GOD HELP ME feels like a prayer of my heart. “feels like there’s no way out, but Jesus, You’re faithful and able, and You’ve never once let me down. God, help me now. No one else has the power that’s in Your name. No where else can I run to and be saved.”
HOLD ON, TAKE HEART is like that call to “Child, lift up your eyes!” “Let the hopeless hold on. Let the weary take heart.”… “Let the love of the Father pull you into His arms. When the burden is heavy and the valley is dark, let the helpless hold on. Let the weary take heart.”
SAY THE WORD just means so much me – every word, the entire song. It is the powerful reminder of how God spoke, and things came to be, or they changed! “Just a breath, just a whisper, You turned deserts to rivers.” … “You are our living hope. No where else could we go. From the depths of our soul. And we cry, do what only You can do.”
Be blessed! Let us know what you think!
