Songlab ‘Simplicity Live EP’

The trend in epic, 10-minute-long worship songs continues with SongLab’s latest release, “Simplicity Live”.  Containing just four songs, this EP clocks in at over 30 minutes in length, and it is well worth it.

For those unfamiliar with SongLab, they are a very fluid collection of musicians, as described on their website; “SongLab is a collective of worshipers coming together to magnify the Lord through worship and songwriting.”.  Founded approximately eight years ago by Meredith Mauldin, they strive to write and perform very powerful and emotive worship songs.  Listening to their new EP, they seem to have struck success in this endeavor.  All four songs build and release tension through tempo and dynamics and include extremely heartfelt lyrics.  These songs include: “Into Your Hands”, “Sail Again”, “My Breakthrough” and the standout anthem, “Hero”.  This song just grabs the listener and focuses the attention on God with very simple and direct lyrics:

“Cause You are God
Hero of my heart
Shepherd of my soul
You take what was lost and make it whole
Strong enough to save
Conqueror of my grave
Mender and defender
You are God”

This is an extremely moving set of worship songs and I would highly recommend it.
